Safety and privacy

FAQ: TypeIt4Me is asking to control my computer. Is TypeIt4Me a keylogger? How safe is it? Does it spy on me?

TypeIt4Me will ask you to grant it permission to use accessibility features to control your computer. You don’t have to grant this permission, but if you don’t it won’t be able to expand your typed abbreviations for you. You’ll need to manually copy and paste snippets yourself, from TypeIt4Me’s point-and-click menu.

Don’t worry, TypeIt4Me is not a keylogger in the scary sense and it’s not spying on you or uploading what you type anywhere without your knowledge. While it does have to log keystrokes to do its job, these keystrokes are never saved or sent anywhere. Moreover, TypeIt4Me empties its cache every time you press the space bar (or any other keys you’ve set up to trigger expansion). Generally, TypeIt4Me only briefly remembers a few characters of what you most recently typed. Using TypeIt4Me does not compromise your privacy.
