FAQ: I deleted a snippet from TypeIt4Me but it still appears to be active. When I type its abbreviation, it continues to expand. Why?
Possibility #1: there’s a duplicate somewhere
First, check that you don’t have another instance of the same snippet defined in another active set in TypeIt4Me. It’s possible you copied it from one set to another and forgot to delete the original, in which case you’ll want to either locate and delete the original or disable the set that contains it.
Possibility #2: there’s more than one copy of TypeIt4Me running
If that’s not it, make sure that there is only one instance of TypeIt4Me running on your Mac. It could be that you have an older version still present somewhere on your computer and it might still be set to automatically launch on login. If there’s another copy of the snippet in that older version, it could still expand.
Possibility #3: something other than TypeIt4Me is expanding your abbreviation
Finally, there is another possible explanation. If you switched to TypeIt4Me after using a similar utility like TextExpander, Typinator, aText or Rocket Typist, check that none of these is running. It could have launched and started expanding your old abbreviations without you realising.
If that’s not the case, perhaps you also defined the same abbreviation outside of TypeIt4Me, as a system level text replacement shortcut. This does catch people out, occasionally.
For example, let’s say you created a TypeIt4Me snippet on your Mac that expands your typed initials to your full name. Then, later you also set up a text replacement shortcut on your iPhone or iPad that does the same thing and it syncs to your Mac over iCloud. Deleting the TypeIt4Me snippet on your Mac will not also stop the system from replacing your typed initials with your full name. You’ll need to go to System Settings > Keyboard > Text Replacements… and remove the shortcut from there, too.
