An overview of the main TypeIt4Me app window
The main TypeIt4Me app window is where you will manage your library of personal shorthand abbreviations and the snippets of content that these represent. You’ll create new snippets to add to your repertoire and edit existing ones here.
The window is divided into three sections. The leftmost column is the sidebar, in which you can view and manage the containing ‘sets’ in which your snippets are stored. The middle column displays a list of the snippets contained in the currently selected set. To the right of that, the third section displays the content of the snippet that’s currently selected in the list. Running along the top of the window is the primary toolbar. This contains action buttons that you can use to add or delete snippets, format text, insert various types of content and / or apply special settings.
How to open the TypeIt4Me window
There are three ways that you can bring up the main app window. To begin with, only the first method described below is enabled by default. You can enable the other two in the app’s settings if you want to use them.
Access TypeIt4Me via the menu bar
The primary way to open the main TypeIt4Me window is to click on the app’s icon in the menu bar at the top of your screen and select “Show TypeIt4Me” from the menu that opens. This method is enabled by default, but if you don’t want the icon to live in your menu bar you can disable it in the app’s General settings and switch to your preferred alternative option(s).
Access TypeIt4Me via the dock
By default, the TypeIt4Me app icon will only be visible in your Dock while the main app window is open. If the window is open in the background you can click on the icon in the Dock to bring the window to the front. You can also press the command and tab keys to invoke the app switcher and select TypeIt4Me from there.
In the app’s General settings you can specify that TypeIt4Me should always show in your Dock while the app is running, even if the window is closed. You can then long-press, control-click, or two-finger-click on the icon in the Dock to open its menu and select “Show TypeIt4Me” to open the window.
Hot keys: use keyboard shortcuts to summon TypeIt4Me
If you prefer using the keyboard to clicking on stuff, we’ve got you covered. You can set and memorize your own personal hot key combo that, when pressed, will open the main TypeIt4Me window. Open TypeIt4Me’s settings and head to the Hot Keys section, then define the combination of keys you want to press to invoke “Show TypeIt4Me.” Typically, this will be a modifier key and a letter, number or symbol, e.g. you could hold down the option key and the 9 key together.
